Love Letter Number One

31 Mar

I’ve always wanted to write something about love that’s not cheesy but it’s so hard to do especially when you’re happy and a romantic like me.  Often I end up gushing or raving so much like a teenager.  I guess love makes us corny. 🙂

Like I always say, I feel so lucky and blessed by God for having been given the chance to meet my soulmate at an early age.  Some people take years and years of searching, several heartbreaks, and dozens of wrong relationships, before actually finding “the one”.  It’s a reality of life and there’s nothing wrong with that.  Some of us really have to go through all of those just to find the person we’re meant to be with for the rest of our lives. It doesn’t mean there’s something wrong with you.  It’s just really how it is.  This is indeed the reason why I cannot express how grateful I am for this wonderful blessing of Love in my life.

Unfortunately, not everyone has the same fate.  I have witnessed a lot of these “single life trials” from friends, relatives, and acquaintances.  I try my best to comfort them and make them learn from these experiences.  In fact, I also even learn from them as well.  At times there will be situations when friends become stubborn, some of them change completely because of these relationships, or worse some would even drift away.  These are the moments when I eagerly want to let them read the thoughts in my head.  These are the moments when I have always wanted to come up with the perfect words to say.

Since I will be one of the first to get married in my group of friends, I feel very blessed and thankful.  Yet apart from these feelings, I also think of it as a responsibility – a responsibility to share my blessing by at least imparting thoughts and learnings from my happy heart.  🙂  Here goes my love letter…

LOVE LETTER # 1:

Dear you, yes you.  I have four things I want to tell you because I love you.

ONE: Learn To Celebrate Love!

Whether you’re single, in a relationship, or in a complicated relationship… Young, old, or undergoing quarterlife crisis…  You should be able to celebrate love in your own way.  Love has various forms and it’s up to you to celebrate it.  If you can’t, there must be bitterness in your heart.  Take away that bitterness and be happy for people in love and be happy that love still exists.  It only means you can still find it. 🙂

TWO: Do Not Sulk If You’re Still Single.

Don’t take it as some sort of bad luck, being single my dear friends, is actually a blessing.  It’s a gift of time and opportunity to learn more, discover what your wants and needs are, a time to define your principles, values and more importantly your self-worth.  Being single means you have more time to find out about what kind of person you are and what kind of person you want to become.  Everyone needs to go through this.  Moreover, take this as the perfect time to prepare yourself for “the one” – that one person God has set aside for you. In your being single my friends, you must find fulfillment not emptiness, security not insecurity, and peace not bitterness.  If this happens, your “singlehood” is definitely a blessing. However, if you find your hearts and minds filled with trouble and anxiety, hatred and angst, or worse envy towards others who are happily inlove…then obviously, being this kind of “singlehood” is like a curse.  Take it as blessing. 🙂

THREE: Truly Believe In Love – Even the Cheesy Kind.

Trust me, believing in true love does not and will not hurt.  It only hurts if you make yourself vulnerable and gullible because of this belief.  But if you believe and love in a sappy way but know the right from wrong and firmly stand by your principles, you will not find yourself astray.  Even after being hurt, betrayed, or abandoned, continue to desire for all the good things about love.  It’s easier said than done I know, but in believing in something which we have proven many times is real, there seems to be nothing to lose.  Try calming your heart down and avoid focusing too much on yourself by always actively looking or hunting for a partner.  On the contrary, widen your perspective and appreciate the love that’s already all around us.  You can see love in your parents and family members, your best friends, your colleagues, or even random people in the street.  Appreciate those kinds of love and try to love back!  Your heart will be so fulfilled that there will be a time when you will actually no longer look for love!  And you’ll be surprised to find out that it is when you are not looking, love will come find you. 🙂  I personally wasn’t looking for someone when my fiancé came into the picture.  We started out as classmates.  He said he had the biggest crush on me but I only saw him as some boy.  We managed to become friends and then liked each other.  We tried out a relationship even if we went to different colleges, had different interests and had different worlds and yet somehow our love still flourished.  Now, we’re getting married! ♥

FOUR: Pray For Love

Please always pray to Him.  Pray for the kind of love God has destined for each one of us.  Some of us will be blessed early, some later, but God will find a way to send us the message if we just talk to Him.  Remember that love doesn’t have to happen right now or when we want it but it will happen when God thinks we’re ready for it.  Even if your heart is injured and has been broken into pieces, God will definitely piece it back together.  Who knows, He might even reward you with a brand new heart for a fresh start to love completely again!  So please, I encourage you, to pray for the person you’re destined to be with.  Even if you don’t know him yet. 🙂

So there you go.  I hope I was able to write down everything in my head.  If not, maybe I’ll do another post next time – Love Letter # 2?  Haha!  I apologize for always raving about love.  I can’t please everybody and some might think I’m cheesy and sappy but true love and happiness are undeniable. It will show no matter how much you hide it.  🙂  I wish for the same happiness to fill all your hearts whether you’re single or happily inlove like me.  May all of us find joy in God’s love and the people around us.

Inlove and sharing the love,

3-week LDR: Missing The Fianch

29 Mar

My dear Fiance has been gone for a week now and I already miss him!!!  He’s having his well-deserved vacation in California with his family and there are two weeks left!!! I’m sure he’s having a blast though so it’s fine.

He’ll be back in time for my birthday.  I MISS YOU FIANCH!

This song is for you! 🙂

Get your A back home! 🙂

🎵 “I don’t kno-oh-oh-oh-w where you’re going or when you’re coming home

I don’t kno-oh-oh-oh-w where you’re going, jus get your ass back home.” 🎵

Pleaty Please

26 Mar

Pleats are in this spring!

I know that pleats in bright and bold colors are more appropriate but this neutral-color-loving girl of course chooses black and white. 🙂  This cute skirt I bought from Forever 21 is semi sheer with really structured pleats and some white polka dots.  Trendy but not loud.  Still classy, still me.  🙂

Wore this to Fianchie’s thanksgiving dinner a couple of weeks ago if you remember that post

Happy trend spotting!

Sporting the pleats,

Big Bad Thanks

25 Mar

THANK YOU, GOD!  These were the words that filled our hearts and minds after this momentous event in my fiancé’s life which happened last month.  We’re just so happy and grateful that Fianch has FINALLY finished and passed his Revalida and has officially earned his M.D.!  Weeeee! He’s a officially a doctor and all he needs to do next is pass the boards! 🙂  I’m so proud and happy for him!  His family and I can’t help but rejoice.  (insert happy dance music haha)

So the day after his huge achievement, I decided to arrange a simple thanksgiving dinner to celebrate this huge milestone in his life.  I invited our closest friends and I’m glad most of them were able to make it despite the short notice.  Of course there were some who were stuck in duty (doctor’s hospital duty) and other previous engagements but it was fine.  Everyone already sent their love and congratulations.

We had great food and some drinks accompanied by board games and relaxing music at the laid-back Big Bad Wolf, Fort Bonifacio Global City.  We had really nice food such as the unhealthy yet yummy Potato Skins, Grilled Cheese & Tomato Soup, Fish Chicharon, and many more!  A couple of beers and tequila rose capped the night off.  It was a really nice time to just sit back and enjoy this milestone with people who matter and people who believed in him.

Again, I’d like to thank all our friends who celebrated with us.  Thank you for all your support and prayers.  Thank you to Fianch’s family and my family a well for being there for him all the time.  Best of all, A BIG BAD THANKS to You, Sir, up there, for making all of this possible.  🙂

Cheers to success and to God be the glory!

Snacking Around

24 Mar

One fine afternoon before the fiancé left for L.A., we had the whole day to ourselves… watched a movie, went window shopping, and what’s a usual day at the mall without some afternoon snacks.

Since both Fianch and I are born Southerners, the usual hangout place would be of course, Alabang Town Center.  I’m so happy with all the new shops, the new look.  Such a huge improvement!  It now looks like a combination of Greenbelt and Bonifacio Highstreet.  Hooray for Southerners! 🙂

We passed by the Healthy Options store and got a can of a new favorite soda then lounged at the newly-opened Krispy Kreme for some snacks.

We enjoyed our Four-Cheese Pull Apart (no we did not get donuts because we wanted something savory) paired with Blue Sky Cherry Vanilla Creme soda. 🙂  The Pull Apart was perfectly crispy and cheesy.  You gotta have it while it’s warm.  It actually reminded me of cheese soufflé but crispier.  The soda on the other hand was light, sweet, and fruity – just the right amount of sweetness since it’s from Healthy Options.  Also, it’s fruity but not citrus-y, not sure if you can tell the difference, but yeah.  Cherry and vanilla mmm perfect combination! Light and happy snack it was!  We had to save some space for his thanksgiving dinner!  🙂

Happy Snacker,

Post Magnum Craze

20 Mar

So now that the Magnum craze has started to die down, I decide to blog about it.  Sorry I’m weird that way. 🙂

Anyhow, a few months ago, Manila was clamored by intense advertising of this new chocolate ice cream bar – Selecta’s Magnum.  Everyone on the social networks such as Twitter and Facebook have been going crazy over it and as usual, it led us curious Filipinos wanting to try it.  For several days, 7-11 and Mini Stop were packed with excited buyers looking for Magnum and there even were times when it has been out of stock.  Lucky for me, I didn’t have a hard time finding one.

Magnum has three variants:  Classic, Almond, and Chocolate Truffle.  Without even thinking, I already knew that Chocolate Truffle was the one for me.  True enough, I found it the most delicious of all three.

The Classic Magnum was the first one I got to try because Chocolate Truffle was out of stock then.  It was good.  Nothing extraordinary though.  True to it’s name, it was classic – smooth, sweet, with plain chocolate coating and vanilla ice cream inside.  There are cheaper alternatives to the Classic Magnum such as the Dairy Queen ice cream bar so having it priced at 60 bucks might not be such a good idea.

Now onto my favorite flavor!  Chocolate Truffle flavor did not fail my tastebuds.  It was very creamy, very rich in flavor and you can really taste the dark chocolate truffles melting in your mouth.  The sweetness is just right and not overpowering.  Now this one is worth my 60 bucks.  🙂

What about you?  Which Magnum have you tried?

Kudos to the marketing strategy of Magnum for creating such a huge hype in Manila for a simple product every Filipino loves – ice cream!  I just hope they’re able to sustain it.

Always A Sweet Tooth,

Knitty Gritty

17 Mar

Since summer is officially here, I’m gonna say goodbye for now to my lovely knits!  Knit wear kept me company since November and some of them became my favorite closet staples, paired with skirts, shorts, or leggings.  Today, I’m keeping them in a farther place in my closet as I say hello to my tank tops, sheer tops, and other summer wear.  ☀

Knit Wear

The photo above was taken last January in Tagaytay.  I was wearing a beige 3/4 knit blouse with some crochet details from Forever 21.  Blue shorts was from H&M and ballet flats from Aerosoles.

See you soon knitties! 🙂

Looking forward to summer,

StrawBEERy

16 Mar

I was never a beer drinker.  Yes, I drink alcohol, and there might have been a couple of times when I drank a lot (especially during special occasions  heehee 🙂 SHH), but I choose liquor over beer.

Drinking beer makes me feel bloated so I don’t like it that much.  Although I like trying out different brands of beer once in a while just for the sake of trying.  Aside from my fascination on trying out new things, I find beer with weird names and cool packaging attractive.  Then when I don’t like it, I give it to my boyfriend.  Haha! 🙂

[ SIDE TIP: You can find a great collection of imported beer at The Distillery in Burgos Circle Bonifacio Global City& The Distillery in Jupiter Makati ]

So last week, I went to The Keg (The Fort Strip, Bonifacio Global City) with some college friends for a couple of drinks.  I saw flavored beer in the menu!  I instantly found it interesting.  One’s Kiwi flavored and one’s Strawberry flavored.  Guess what I chose to order…

Taken via INSTAGRAM

Obviously, the redness of the photo shows I ordered the Strawberry flavor.  Haha! 🙂  I was surprised to find out that the Strawberry beer is locally-produced.  It’s from the big and famous San Miguel but not sold in normal retail outlets.  Not sure if it’s just new or exclusive to that bar.  Anyway, it came in an SMB beer mug so it kinda looked funny like Kool Aid in a macho mug. 🙂

It was sweet and fruity as expected, true to it’s strawberry flavor.  It almost tasted like juice so I was scared I might finish the whole mug in just a few minutes.  You can only taste the beer a few seconds after you swallow.  A little hint of bitterness there.  Overall, I think it’s beer for girls.  I’m sure you won’t see men drinking this.  At least not in public. 🙂

So that’s it for my StrawBEERY surprise.

CHEERS!

Nerdy Nails

14 Mar

Last weekend, my Aunt brought home some stuff from the States.  She’ll be selling some items but mom and I got first dibs.  Talk about temptation huh.  There were bags, makeup, perfume, and other assorted items.  Out of all the tempting stuff, this caught my attention.  I was surprised to find this in her stash!

Image

TADA!  NERDS scented nail polish!  Sorry but it’s my first time to see such cuteness.  They probably have a lot of these in the U.S. but i really didn’t know they had NERDS polish. Sheesh I might end up eating my nails if I use these.  They really really smell like candy.  The box comes with three flavors/scents – strawberry, grape, and orange.  Colors are so bright and candy-like too!

Should I give it a try?  What do you think? 🙂

I’ll let you know if it’s any good!

Happy Nail Biting,

SutrA

5 Mar

Anyone who knows me would agree that I am a woman with huge appetite and passion for food.  I love to eat eat eat, try new dishes, experiment in cooking, go back a zillion times to old time favorites, and anything about food just excites me.  So please, bear with me when most of my posts are about food okay? 😉  Happy drooling!

A few weeks ago, I went out with a couple of good friends and decided to have dinner at SutrA(Yes, that’s a capital A and not a typographical error.  I have yet to figure out why the letter A is capitalized.) SutrA is a relatively new restaurant-bar at Bonifacio High Street Central – the new area where Jamba Juice is located.  If I’m not mistaken, it opened around December 2011.  It has a modern elegant facade which kind of spells “pricey” but don’t get intimidated.  I prefered al fresco dining by the balcony area outside the resto while enjoying the beautiful lights and view of BGC.  I’m not sure if that’s ideal come summertime though.

SutrA @ BGC

What was on my table?  I ordered Sole Fillet Roulade with Crabmeat Stuffing, Linguini Pesto, Brocolli, and Salsa Vera Cruz.  Sounds mouth watering? INDEED IT WAS! *drool drool drool*

The fish was so soft, juicy, and cooked perfectly! It melted in my mouth mmm…  I love crabs and the crab stuffing was perfectly seasoned with the right seafood taste.  It came oozing out of the juicy fish like a treasure in every bite.  At the bottom of the Sole Fillet was the Linguini pesto which was perfectly cooked as well.  I like how the pesto was light and not too garlic-y so it balances the dish.  The pieces of Brocolli were all fresh and crisp and the salsa vera cruz infused a nice sweet-sour contrast to the savory dish.  I was so happy with it!  I think I finished it in five minutes. 🙂 *Nomnomnom*

I’ve heard others say that SutrA’s food is too pricey but I don’t think it is.  Prices of SutrA’s dishes are definitely a tad higher than your usual weekend dining but I think you get your money’s worth and that’s what’s important.  For my dish, I shelled out PHP475 (not inclusive of tax and service charge). See, not bad huh.  For the way it was cooked and presented, PHP475 is just right and I didn’t feel like I was robbed.  I don’t mind spending a little more than usual as long as I get my money’s worth.

So for all of you fellow food lovers out there, give SutrA a try the next time you go to BGC.  Trust me, it’s worth a try! 😉

Happy Tummy,

Abby Wasabi
