Birthday Dress

20 Apr

Since I got a lot of compliments on the dress I wore for my birthday (thank you!), I just wanna share with you where I got it.  This dark coral / red-orange dress is from MANGO.  [Not sure if you’ll recognize it here]

I love the cut and the light material – very summery but still appropriate for the office. This year’s hot hot summer has brought out my weakness for halter cut tops. Unfortunately, some of them are quite too skimpy to wear for work.  This particular cut however has caught my taste as it shows just the right amount of shoulder with matching super cute mao collar. 🙂

I’ve been liking MANGO‘s latest collections recently and I wanted to buy a loooot the last time I went to the store! Their new skirts and dresses are particularly nice – even nicer than the ones I see in Zara. Great job, Mango! Looking forward to another shopping spree on my next visit! Hopefully my wallet has already recovered by then. 🙂

Summer Essentials Part 1

11 Apr

IT’S SO HOT OUTSIDE!!! Sheesh this is probably one of the hottest summers I’ve ever experienced! I worry for how it’s gonna be next year. 😐

Don’t get me wrong, I like summer. I like summer for the beach trips and pool parties, upbeat music, beautiful clouds and longer daytime, enjoying fruit shakes and slurping ice cream, and thanking the inventor of showers. 🙂 Most importantly, I like summer because well, there’s NO RAIN.  Yes, I dislike rain very much.  Anyway, before I continue to ramble… I’ve decided to post summer essentials every week and this is part one. 🙂

Here goes the list. Sharing with you three of my hundreds dozens of summer essentials:

1) HAPPY NAIL POLISH

I don’t usually wear nail polish.  Ever since I was a kid, I’ve never really accustomed myself to liking color on my nails (any color at that).  At most, I’d put on some clear polish just to make them look shiny but that’s it. I like them clean and looking like nails of boys. Haha! Summer is an exception though. During summer I have the urge to paint my nails bright! 🙂 I just got a mani-pedi last Tuesday and here is my favorite summer nail color – coral. 🙂

2) COOLING SPRAY

As I’ve mentioned earlier, the heat outside is terrible! The scorching hot sun and humid high temperature makes my skin look and feel horrible. So I always keep my Avene spray in my bag. I bought this in France but I’m happy to know that last week Mercury Drug now sells Avene products! Hooray! No need to hoard these stuff from France. 🙂 This is just natural spring water so there are no chemicals. I’m a fan of natural stuff so thumbs up for this one. Try it and spritz the summer heat away! 🙂

Cooling Spray

3) I SCREAM FOR ICE CREAM!!!

Are you surprised? Of course this is my ultimate summer essential – my all time favorite ICE CREAM! As if I don’t eat this on rainy days hahaha! 🙂 What can I say, it’s a happy food/comfort food/I can eat it anytime food! Obviously, this cold treat helps us beat-the-heat! I like all kinds and flavors of ice cream (oh yes believe me) but right now, my favorites are Pinkerton and M&M’s ice cream cookie sandwich. *Drooool*

Ice cream!

That’s it for now. Watch out for more of my summer essentials soon!

HAVE A GREAT SUMMER! 🙂

Sale Season in Hong Kong

8 Jul

June to August are Hong Kong’s shopping months.  The super sale happens this season and both tourists and locals clamor for designer bags, shoes, clothes, beauty products, and almost anything that pleases their fashion taste.  This is the time when we have to fall in line outside the Chanel and Prada shops and wait for our turn inside.  Queueing is normal during this season as everyone wants to get hold of the very attractive bargains.  🙂

True enough, designer items slash up to 50% off their original prices making them more reasonable to buy (at least for most of them).  I can imagine all the brand conscious people rejoicing and jumping up and down already, including my friend (ninang) Clare who loves designer bags and shoes! 🙂

Summarizing how my trip went in five items:

1. Hooray for Cathay Pacific Business Class! Super awesome flight experience.  Good service, great food, and comfy seats. 🙂

2. Our good ‘ol hotel that never fails to please: Caritas Bianchi Hotel along Yau Ma Tei Nathan Road.  Stayed here twice already and I’m still pleased with it.  Very good location (close to the MTR and convenience stores), good service, good breakfast, big rooms and nice bathroom for a three star hotel.  I’m definitely staying here again.  Nevermind the four-star or five-star hotels with popular names.  They even have smaller rooms compared to Caritas Bianchi’s.

3. Shopping was of course the highlight of the trip so we can’t do without it.  We shopped and hopped from one store to the other all day and all night.  Hello, sore feet!

Okay so where do I begin?  We visited Citygate Outlets at Tung Chung.  Unfortunately, we didn’t find any good buys except for a pair of Giordano jeans and the super cheap luggage at the Samsonite outlet store.  The items were cheap but I just couldn’t find anything that matches my taste. 😦 So guess where I got to shop a lot…where else but H&M and Cotton On, my go-to HK brands! 🙂  I also hoarded Clean and Clear oli films and a few face masks at Bonjour!  They’re so cheap in HK yay! I also got to buy some stuff in Uniqlo even if we already have it in Manila.  Zara Philippines is > Zara HK so I didn’t get to buy anything. 😦 Then there’s City Super of course for food items.  Bossini didn’t have much good stocks this season.  COS opened in HK a few days before we got there and the clothes were adobrable but overpriced. 😦 Longchamp had cheap bags and wallets and I got tempted to buy.  Even the Ferragamo flats and Prada heels from the outlet store tempted me so badly.  Waah I had to resist temptation!  Clare on the other hand bought exesnive goodies like the Gucci bag, another Rimowa luggage, Tory Burch flats, the precious Garrett popcorn, Jean Paul Hevin macarons, and that cute Ferragamo hair clip. 🙂

4. Being a girl with a 300-lber appetite, food is an integral part of a trip for me.  I MUST visit my country faves and I MUST try new stuff. 🙂 Having said that, we drove to Causeway Bay for my all time favorite HK resto, DIN TAI FUNG! Yipee! Happy Tummy! 🙂 I ordered Xiao Long Bao, Spicy Shirmp Dumplings, and Scallion Noodles all to myself!  $160 worth of DTF goodness!  Ahh yummeh 🙂 Then we tried the super cute Charlie Brown Cafe at Cameron Road.  This awesome concept shop had great food, good service, and really nice and cute catroony ambiance.  We had fun eating while taking photos and felt like kiddos haha!  Cafe De Coral is another staple for HK trips.  Roast duck, Roast Goose, Baked Spaghetti, Soy Chicken… I think I’ve aleady eaten all of the items in Cafe De Coral’s menu! Hahaha! 🙂

5. In order for trips to be fun, a significant factor is your company, whom you spent the trip with.  Since it was a shopping trip, the perfect companion would be your girlfriends! 🙂  Jelibelly and Clarebear are my Friday lunch girls – my good friends from my former office.  We know a lot of things about each other and share so many stories including gossip hahaha and we’re comfortable with each other’s company!  They are such generous friends for arranging this trip as their engagement gift/despidida de soltera gift for me!!! Aren’t they sweet??? 🙂  Thanks, girls!  I hope they enjoyed as much as I did. 🙂

So, when do you think am I going back to Hong Kong? 🙂  I’ll give you a prize if you can guess!

Laters, babe! (Christian Grey)

Philippine Fashion Week May 2012

7 Jun

Attended the Philippine Fashion Week Holiday 2012 again last May thanks to my designer friends for the invites.  🙂  I like watching the PFW shows because I enjoy appreciating our talented local designers as they showcase their interesting collections.

These were the shows I got to watch:

VISIONS AND TRENDS featuring Happy Andrada, Jan Garcia, Oz Go, Regine Dulay, Russell Villafuerte

READY TO WEAR COLLECTION featuring Dave Ocampo, Emi Alexander Englis, Harley Ruedas, Jian Lasala, John Guarnes, Mike Lavarez, Nixon Marquez

Brought my friends Fin & Tib with me.  Thanks to the manong bouncer who allowed me to bring them in without having to register. Apparently he thought I was some sort of VIP.  Heehee thanks I’m flattered. 🙂

(L-R: Fin, Tib, Abby) Dress by Efren Ocampo, Belt from Hongkong, Shoes from Celine

I fell in love with Dave Ocampo‘s collection… His creations were so ethereal, flowy, and enchanting.  The cuts of the dresses were so sexy but still pretty and chic, and the fabric he used was so on the body and expensive-looking.  The color palette was also so lovely!  I wanted to buy everything! 🙂  I’m definitely going to Dave Ocampo’s shop one of these days.

Happy Andrada‘s collection is of course one of the unusual ones.  Her creations are always unique, modern, “loud”.  I think I can describe her as playful and she really loves to experiment.  I’ve modeled one of her pieces before and I already knew that her designs were meant to stand out.  I was quite surprised though that she chose white as her palette and not something colorful.  Well it didn’t really stop her from going avant-garde.

Watching Jian Lasala‘s collection is always pleasant because of it’s high fashion appeal without going overboard or avant-garde.  His collection is always simple, slim, and structured.  No frills but still fashion forward. Jian probably lives by the statement “less is more” with his fantastic modern minimalist execution. He used white as his palette this time which accentuated the clean designs even more.  My only problem with Jian’s designs is that I think the clothes would only look good on skinny women.  But your weight is not the designer’s problem right? 🙂

Check out some photos I took.  Unfortunately, my Lumix failed me that day.  I couldn’t capture nice shots due to the harsh lighting.  I’ll study the settings next time.

Looking forward to the next season this coming October! 🙂

Pleaty Please

26 Mar

Pleats are in this spring!

I know that pleats in bright and bold colors are more appropriate but this neutral-color-loving girl of course chooses black and white. 🙂  This cute skirt I bought from Forever 21 is semi sheer with really structured pleats and some white polka dots.  Trendy but not loud.  Still classy, still me.  🙂

Wore this to Fianchie’s thanksgiving dinner a couple of weeks ago if you remember that post

Happy trend spotting!

Knitty Gritty

17 Mar

Since summer is officially here, I’m gonna say goodbye for now to my lovely knits!  Knit wear kept me company since November and some of them became my favorite closet staples, paired with skirts, shorts, or leggings.  Today, I’m keeping them in a farther place in my closet as I say hello to my tank tops, sheer tops, and other summer wear.  ☀

Knit Wear

The photo above was taken last January in Tagaytay.  I was wearing a beige 3/4 knit blouse with some crochet details from Forever 21.  Blue shorts was from H&M and ballet flats from Aerosoles.

See you soon knitties! 🙂

Looking forward to summer,
