Laboracay 2013

15 May

And it gets better every year!!!

Yep ladies and gents, Boracay Labor Day weekend did not fail us once again.

It was another weekend of fun partying (and pigging out) with friends at the beach! White House/Sur HAPPY HOUR FTW! And who doesn’t love Boracay’s sun, sand, and sea water. ♥

My Laboracay Ladies

My Laboracay Ladies

Too bad I wasn’t able to prepare for the trip. Every year I say “I’ll have abs next year promise” but nah it never happens. Check out my birthday belly (Spiral buffet birthday belly for that matter). Lots of bikini clad ladies showed off their toned bodies while I looked like a whale! 😦 Oh well, at least my hubby thinks I’m sexy HAHA! (He doesn’t have a choice) 🙂

Of course while on the island we took advantage of our faves – Real Coffee’s Calamansi Muffins, Fruit shakes and chocolate shakes, Cafe Del Sol cheesecakes, Ole Mexican food, and Dos Mestizos Spanish cuisine.  🙂

A trip highlight for me would be having breakfast with hubby at the veranda of our hotel while appreciating the beautiful view of Boracay Station 1. It was our first time to stay at Nigi Nigi Too, the not so popular Polynesian hotel beside Willy’s (because Sur and White House were fully booked) but we loved it! Excellent service as well. Wouldn’t mind staying here again next time.

See you next year, Boracay! Ciao!

Birthday Dress

20 Apr

Since I got a lot of compliments on the dress I wore for my birthday (thank you!), I just wanna share with you where I got it.  This dark coral / red-orange dress is from MANGO.  [Not sure if you’ll recognize it here]

I love the cut and the light material – very summery but still appropriate for the office. This year’s hot hot summer has brought out my weakness for halter cut tops. Unfortunately, some of them are quite too skimpy to wear for work.  This particular cut however has caught my taste as it shows just the right amount of shoulder with matching super cute mao collar. 🙂

I’ve been liking MANGO‘s latest collections recently and I wanted to buy a loooot the last time I went to the store! Their new skirts and dresses are particularly nice – even nicer than the ones I see in Zara. Great job, Mango! Looking forward to another shopping spree on my next visit! Hopefully my wallet has already recovered by then. 🙂

MANGO Stores I visit are in: Powerplant Mall Rockwell, Greenbelt 5,  and Alabang Town Center

Plus One

17 Apr

Another year has passed and another year has come. Yep, that’s right folks, put a plus one on my age digits! 🙂

Yesterday, April 16, I turned a year older, a year wiser (hopefully), a year stronger, and with a different surname! 🙂 It’s my first birthday as a married woman! And thanks to my ever so sweet and thoughtful husband, it became a memorable one.

My all-day birthday celebration began early in the morning. My hubby woke me up and placed his big birthday present on the bed. 🙂 I was still so sleepy but I couldn’t help but open it especially since i saw the huge Michael Kors label hahaha! I loved it! 🙂 We also had breakfast with my parents and they also had a nice present for me yay! 🙂 Hubby then brought me to work (yeah I had to work people, no birthday leaves) and I was happy to have a light day with no meetings. Woopee! Some gifts and cakes were delivered from partners/clients and finally hubby picked me up again for our birthday dinner date in…SPIRAL SOFITEL! 🙂 Oh but I also passed by the Sacred Heart Church to say a thanksgiving prayer. 🙂

Two words: FOOD COMA! The Spiral buffet in Sofitel always leaves me in this state – a food coma – a good kind though. Of course we enjoyed the vast scrumptious dinner spread especially the newly improved L’Epicerie, Salad bar, French Corner, and Dessert Station! 🙂 It was a gastronomic feast! Perfect for special occasions like MY BIRTHDAY! Haha! 🙂

We finished eating at around 8:30PM and we left Sofitel with our happy tummies!  Little did I know that the celebration was not yet over and I was in for a surprise!  So we drove to The Fort Strip, I kept bugging him in the car cos he wouldn’t tell me where we were going, and we finally reached Aracama. To my surprise, my friends were there waiting and they all greeted me a happy birthday! 🙂 It was a fun night of celebrating with cupcakes, wine, and Mr. Daniels. We all enjoyed and became zombies to work the next day haha!

Happy birthday to me!

Happy birthday to me!

Indeed it was an all-day celebration and it was perfectly planned thanks to my hubby. 🙂 What better way to celebrate my coming to this world – with my Love, my family, my close friends, and of course a thanksgiving prayer to HIM! 🙂 Thank you, Lord, for another year. I feel blessed everyday. Everything I do, I lift up to You. ♥

May this year bring even more blessings, learning, and meaningful memories. Cheers!

P.S. Never mind the asking me of my age. Haha! 🙂

Grew older but looking younger (HAHA),

Happy Easter

1 Apr

Thank you, Jesus, for saving us! I hope everyone had a meaningful Holy Week and a Blessed Easter Sunday! 🙂

A Blessed Easter To All!

A Blessed Easter To All!

Easter is like Christmas! And what better way to celebrate this joyful day than a great meal with loved ones. 🙂 After hearing mass at St. James the Great Parish, we decided to have Easter dinner just in the South at Tito Chef’s.

Tito Chef’s is a nice little hole in the wall restaurant along President’s Avenue of the busy BF Homes Paranaque – home of the original Conti’s.

First thing I liked about the resto is the unpretentious yet classy and cozy ambiance. The place is not that big so make sure to make reservations. One more admirable thing I enjoyed was the service. They had excellent service – I must say it’s very much comparable to five star hotel service! Their waiters are very attentive. Good job! 🙂

Now onto the stars of the night…the food.

These DELICIOUS dishes went down my huge belly: Spinach and Raclette Souffle, Calamari with Kimchi Mayo (not in photo), Surf and Turf, Water Buffalo Cheese Salad (not in photo), Pan Roasted River Cobbler Filet (not in photo), Rosemary Grilled Lamb Steak (not in photo), and Aussie Lamb Paella. Plus these divine desserts: Vanilla Creme Brulee, Tiramisu, Dulce de Leche Cheesecake, and Chocolate Citrus Gateau.

Guess Who’s Back!

18 Mar

I’m baaaaaaaccckkkkk!!! 🙂

Oh how I super missed blogging!!!

FINALLY, I have time to write again after the loooong hiatus caused by the ever stressful wedding preparations! Don’t get me wrong, it was fun, fulfilling, it could even be one of the best moments of my life. But did it mean I still had time to do other things (like blogging)? Heck no! Haha! How I wish I could’ve been that bride who still had time to share all the beautiful experiences of wedding planning and the big day itself. Alas, the OC-DIY-HandsOn Bride I was just found it impossible to do so.

Soooo anyway, here I am, single lady no more! The new Ms. Mrs. Borja! Teehee 🙂 Still not used to it.

Please pray for me and wish me luck as there are many things to learn in this great new chapter. Cheers to this new life and new adventure! 🙂

Back for good,

Abby Wasabi

9 Aug

Hi Friends! How have you been? I hope everybody’s safe and dry after the past three days of tumultuous rain. I’ll be catching up on blog-backlogs so please bear with me for a moment.

I just wanna share how I’ve welcomed August so far. YES, that’s right AUGUST! More than halfway through the year… five months to go before the big day!!! Agggh (insert panic face)

So, first and foremost, please give me a warm round of applause because I FINALLY, after 10 50 years, FINALLY I get to do some physical activity again. I’ve enrolled at Gold’s Gym!!! OHYEAH! 🙂 So proud of myself for finally starting trying to get fit again. You know, I really really hate exercise. And with my 300-LB-er appetite, I just cant thank God enough that I’m not overweight or close to obese. BUT this doesn’t mean I’m fit and healthy. I know I’m not. I seriously pant when I climb the stairs haha! I still need to exercise to stay in shape. So WOOHOO please pat me on the back for this big step. I was able to drag my lazy butt and embrace exercise as part of my weekly routine. YAY! 🙂

Next up, since I’ve mentioned there are five months left before the big day (ayayay)… I’ve arranged lunch last weekend for my female bridal entourage!!! 🙂 Maid of Honor, Bridesmaids, Secondary Sponsors – my lovely girl friends had lunch at my home after my seamstress’ assistant tok their measurements. I’m so excited for their dresses as I’ve designed them myself and carefully assigned the right design for each one. Wee! 🙂

Lastly, I just want you to meet a cute new member of our household – mommy’s new doggiebaby – BURRITO!!! 🙂 He’s a playful brown chihuahua with a little voice and huggge appetite for his size. Maybe he got that from me. Hahaha! 🙂

Enjoy the rest of the month, friends! CHEERS! 🙂

Hoping for an Awesome August,

Abby Wasabi

Diet Time

19 Jul

For the Nth time… I will TRY to go on diet.

Diet means to lessen my food intake and try to eat healthy. No more fast food for a while. 😦

I tell you, this is really torture for me. You know how much I love food. But I need this. I need to lose weight before my wedding.

Wish me luck!!! 🙂

Here’s my healthy lunch for the day. Coffee Bean Tea Leaf Chinese Chicken Salad. Yummy but not filling enough for lunch!

My tummy is currently grumbling after an hour.

Oh dear, diet, I hate you.

Dreading Diet,

Abby Wasabi

Friday The 13th

14 Jul

Friday the 13th AM: I dropped my laptop on my foot and I drove to work with an injured big toe. COME ONNNN. 😦

Friday the 13th PM: Were you on the road Friday night??? You’re lukcy if you weren’t because traffic was TERRIBLE everywhere!!! Payday + Friday + Rain = bad combination.

Okay enough of the rants.  Thank God the day ended nicely…

Good food was there to the rescue!  Good food will always calm me down. Haha! 🙂 Had dinner (late dinner that is) with my college friends Jackie, Audrey, Tam, and Jeff at STELLA.

Stella is a relatively new restaurant in Bonifacio Highstreet Central beside Cue. They have good food.  Although a bit pricey, the taste and quality made it worth the price, not to mention the big servings.  Their Ribs/Riblets were very tasty and good for three not one! I also liked my Gindara which was real soft and juicy. Too bad I wasn’t able to take photos of the food. We were seated outside where it was quite dark (boo!) and I only had my iPad with me. Sorry!

By the way, the resto is usually called Stella and the Rocketroom because the bar beside it (I think they have the same owners) is called Rocketroom. They have good music and drinks and I’m guessing it will be the next “it place” for yuppies. Will hang there next time. 🙂

After dinner, it started to get a bit noisy as we were seated outside, so we decided to have some dessert at SLICE. It was my third time at Slice and I still enjoyed the Choco-yema cupcake! Mmmm. Others say it’s too sweet, but you know me, I like sweet! 🙂 I also had chamomile tea which was a bad idea ‘cos I got really sleepy while driving. Uh oh!

It was a nice catch up sesh with my friends and a good way to cap off the night! Hoping we get to do this more often. 🙂

Lucky even on Friday the 13th,

Abby Wasabi

Little Girl

25 Jun

Welcome to the Christian world and welcome to the family, Gabrielle Marie Onglao Sarte! 🙂

Last Saturday was the baptism of my niece and new godchild, baby Gabe. She was such a cute and pleasant baby she didn’t cry the entireeee time. Can’t wait to buy pretty little dresses for her! 🙂

Baptism was held at Christ the King in Greenmeadows and merienda followed at Blufrog, Silvercity.

Congratulations again to my cousin Kuya Paulo and his lovely wife Ate Rona!

Vieux Chalet Brunch

6 Jun

Can you belive I’ve never been to Antipolo?  Yep, that’s right.  Loser?  Maybe.  Haha!  Or I’m just such a South girl at heart- lived in the South, grew up in the South, still prefers the South.  The only time I got acquainted with the North was in college.  Ateneo de Manila was in the faraway land of Katipunan and I didn’t have a choice.  So to cut the story short, I was FINALLY able to go to Antipolo last Saturday!  (Clap clap) I’ve always wanted to try this restaurant in the area but I didn’t know how to get there.  Perhaps trusting my awesome gastronomic instincts, when I suggested this resto to my parents for their Wedding Anniversary, they automatically obliged.  YAY! 🙂

Antipolo is just about 45 minutes from Makati (it was a Saturday morning so that’s minus the weekday traffic).  I call it the “Tagaytay of the North” since it’s also uphill and had a cooler temperature.  Technically it’s already a province but not quite since it’s close to Manila.  I’m not sure if you should trust my geographical explanations here haha! Let’s just move on to the food talk shall we? 🙂

Let me begin by saying: YOU NEED A MAP.  We almost got lost while looking for the place.  Aside from it being unfamiliar territroy, it was really rather difficult to find.  It was inside the insides of zigazg roads inside a small village on a hill near a cliff.  Haha!  But seriously, you can’t find it unless you research.  Sadly, I can’t imagine driving here at night.  😦  No parking area too except along the narrow steep roads.

Upon entering the vintage-looking resto, their friendly staff immediately greeted us with a smile.  I liked that.  Cheerful and warm greetings in the morning is a good way to start a happy brunch. 🙂  The place was not that big but airy.  Nothing fancy.  Very homey.  Bohemain-rustic-ish.  We had the place to ourselves so that was awesome!  Usual snoopy me went looking around.  Saw several artworks and cute trinkets.  It seemed to be an old house that was made into a restaurant.

Our waiter Rob was very very acommodating! He actually reminded me of a cartoon characted hahaha!  We ordered…A LOT as usual.  We always order food for 6 even if we’re just a small family of four.  Guess you know where I got my appetite from! 🙂

For starters we ordered the Shrimp and Mango Salad, Roasted Pumpkin Soup, and Hot Chocolate.  All of them didn’t fail to make a good impression!

The salad came in generous serving and had really good dressing  (important for me since it contains the flavor).  It was like a combination of oriental and fruity garlicy light mayo.  It had lots of huge shrimps too so you get what you pay for.

Pumpkin Soup is an all time family favorite so we always order this when available.  I like Vieux Chalet’s version ‘cos it’s lighter (not that thick) yet very tasty.  It had roasted garlic and basil which enhanced the flavor. Mmm perfect for the drizzly cool weather.

CHO-CO-LATTEEEE.  Their hot chocolate is just pure bliss for chocolate lovers.  It’s basically a cup of warm pure Swiss cholocate melted in goodness.  It was very thick though so it could use a little more milk.

Now onto the star of the brunch… We ordered 2 platters of their special BRUNCH SETS.  The huge platter (each one is good for 2) had freshly baked wheat bread, eggs the way you want them, smoked ham, giant sausages, Swiss white cheese, buttercream, marmalade, and it came with fresh fruit juice of your choice.  The difference between the two sets is that the other one had additional bacon while the other one had additional smoked salmon.

Breakfast food will always have a special place in my heart and tummy!  I always enjoy eating breakfast/brunch so I may be quite biased. 🙂 Vieux Chalet’s brunch platter was filling, fresh, and delicious although I didn’t find anything extra special compared to other breakfast platters.  It was good enough but not great.  I still prefer Bag of Beans’ omelette and sausages from Earle’s or Santi’s.  Special mention to their ultra soft melts-in-your-mouth tasty smoked salmon by the way! 🙂

My family and I enjoyed our brunch at Vieux Chalet.  The overall dining experience was pleasing and it’s worth a try!  But for those saying that Vieux Chalet is “Antonio’s of the North”…NAH!  It’s a good restaurant but not at par with my #1 favorite – Antonio’s Tagaytay. 🙂

I’m thinking of coming back though one time for a dinner date to appreciate the view and ambiance.  Maybe their other dishes will make me like the resto even more.

Swiss Miss,
Abby Wasabi
