Happy Easter

1 Apr

Thank you, Jesus, for saving us! I hope everyone had a meaningful Holy Week and a Blessed Easter Sunday! ๐Ÿ™‚

A Blessed Easter To All!

A Blessed Easter To All!

Easter is like Christmas! And what better way to celebrate this joyful day than a great meal with loved ones. ๐Ÿ™‚ After hearing mass at St. James the Great Parish, we decided to have Easter dinner just in the South at Tito Chef’s.ย

Tito Chef’s is a nice little hole in the wall restaurant along President’s Avenue of the busy BF Homes Paranaque – home of the original Conti’s.

First thing I liked about the resto is the unpretentious yet classy and cozy ambiance. The place is not that big so make sure to make reservations. One more admirable thing I enjoyed was the service. They had excellent service – I must say it’s very much comparable to five star hotel service! Their waiters are very attentive. Good job! ๐Ÿ™‚

Now onto the stars of the night…the food.

These DELICIOUS dishes went down my huge belly: Spinach and Raclette Souffle, Calamari with Kimchi Mayo (not in photo),ย Surf and Turf, Waterย Buffalo Cheese Salad (not in photo), Pan Roasted River Cobbler Filet (not in photo), Rosemary Grilled Lamb Steak (not in photo), and Aussieย Lamb Paella. Plus these divine desserts: Vanilla Creme Brulee, Tiramisu, Dulce de Leche Cheesecake, and Chocolate Citrus Gateau.

Just Got Hitched

18 Mar

I’m married. Wow. Still takes a bit of time to process that thought honestly. ๐Ÿ™‚ But yeah, two months ago I married the man I loved for 9 years. โค

I am still in awe at this beautiful gift of God to us – the gift of love, the gift of union in marriage. โค How great is our God for creating this wonderful sacrament for us to celebrate, to cherish!

To be totally frank, I don’t really know how to start writing this entry. Too much things come to my mind when you ask me about my wedding. Too much thoughts and too much emotions. But I guess the most evident of all is the feeling of gratitude. During my wedding preparations and on the wedding day itself, I have come to this realization of how immensely blessed I am. I am soooo sooo thankful for my loving and supportive fiancรฉ husband who managed to help me out despite his very busy intern-doctor schedule, for my ever so supportive family – daddy and mommy (in-laws too), who helped me in all ways possible (help is actually an understated word for what they did), and my reliable suppliers who did not let me down. I have nothing but hands down praises for all of these important people who made my wedding a dream come true. *Bonus thanks to dear God of course for the beautiful weather and everything else that managed to go our way. He’s the best!*

Before getting married I had this notion that weddings are all about the love of the couple for each other. I thought it was the cheesiest day of a loving couple’s life and a culmination of their fairy tale love story. All of these are true, yes. It was the most kilig day of my life indeed!!! But I also realized it was more than that.

That day I realized that a wedding isn’t just about two people in love and their commitment to one another but in fact it’s an expression of how the couple is loved by God, their families, and their friends. It was truly about love, but more of an all-encompassing love, that breaches thru distance (we had guests from all over the country and all over the world) and thru time (we had childhood friends and those we haven’t seen for such a long time). It’s the unifying love of God’s community that embraces this man and woman to further encourage them to love another.

Here’s the thing: Our wedding was a destination wedding – our venues were hidden gems in the outskirts of Tagaytay on a Saturday of January when many people are still on vacation and it also coincided the weekend of Sinulog Festival. BUT THE CHURCH WAS FULL. I’ve never seen a wedding with so much people in the ceremony. Except of course if it’s a celebrity wedding or a politician’s. We had a big church which can fit 300 people and almost all pews were filled with our guests – people who love us and came all the way to be with us. My heart melted. ๐Ÿ™‚

I could go on and on about all the beautiful details of my dream wedding from the prefect weather to the gorgeous flowers and great food but it might take so much of your time. Maybe in another post I can share all of these. Believe me I can be rave-y and it can get annoying haha! In the meantime, let me leave you with these beautiful words:

“To be grateful is to recognize the Love of God in everything He has given us – and He has given us everything. Every breath we draw us a gift of His love, every moment of existence is a grace, for it brings with it immense graces from Him. Gratitude therefore takes nothing for granted, is never unresponsive, is constantly awakening to new wonder and to praise of the goodness of God. For the grateful person knows that God is good, not by hearsay but by experience. And that is what makes all the difference.” -Thomas Merton

Cheers to love!!!

Guess Who’s Back!

18 Mar

I’m baaaaaaaccckkkkk!!! ๐Ÿ™‚

Oh how I super missed blogging!!!

FINALLY, I have time to write again after the loooong hiatus caused by the ever stressful wedding preparations! Don’t get me wrong, it was fun, fulfilling, it could even be one of the best moments of my life. But did it mean I still had time to do other things (like blogging)? Heck no! Haha! How I wish I could’ve been that bride who still had time to share all the beautiful experiences of wedding planning and the big day itself. Alas, the OC-DIY-HandsOn Bride I was just found it impossible to do so.

Soooo anyway, here I am, single lady no more! The new Ms. Mrs. Borja! Teehee ๐Ÿ™‚ Still not used to it.

Please pray for me and wish me luck as there are many things to learn in this great new chapter. Cheers to this new life and new adventure! ๐Ÿ™‚

Back for good,

Faraway Drive Just For Food

14 Aug

Can you believe we drove all the way to San Pablo Laguna just to eat? ๐Ÿ™‚ Yeah that’s how crazy we can get when it comes to food! ๐Ÿ™‚

San Pablo Laguna is 1.5 hours away from Manila. You’ll have to drive through SLEX and pass by a lot of towns before you finally get there. This is where you’ll find Patis Tito (formerly Kusina Salud). This is an exaggeration of hole in the wall restos cos it’s so far. But since I didn’t drive, I don’t mind! Haha! ๐Ÿ™‚

Patis Tito Garden Cafe is owned by the famous Patis Tesoro and her husband Tito. Aside from being a famous designer, Patis Tesoro is also the organizer of Viaje Del Sol – a popular tour promoting the Southern Tagalog provinces of Laguna and Quezon. I’ve actually never tried Kusina Salud before despite it’s popularity except once when a relative got Kusina Salud to cater for his wedding. This was a special request because Kusina Salud bever really accepted catering services. Anyway, to cut the story short, Kusina Salud has closed it’s doors already but only to pave way to a newly improved restaurant – Patis Tito, now fully managed by the Tesoros – Patis and Tito.

The restaurant is a secret hidden. It’s located in the inner streets of an already secluded town. The entrance is tiny and you’ll be suprised to find a huge airy garden restaurant inside those mini gates. ๐Ÿ™‚ The place is very Filipino! Well, because aside from it being a Filipino restaurant, Patis Tesoro is known to be an advocate of everything Filipino including her magnificent handmade designs of terno (Filipiniana gown).

The restaurant had native Filipino vintage interiors but still classy and the open space was very conducive for lunch during a nice windy day. ๐Ÿ™‚ It also had a garden with plants for sale and a mini zoo with giant cages of rare beautiful birds.

Now onto the foodm yes? ๐Ÿ™‚

We had: (1) “Paco Salad” or Fern Salad, (2) A Platter of Spring Rolls, (3) “Kulawo” or Eggplant Salad, (4) Crispy Fried Tilapia with Special Sauce, (5) Spicy Beef Saplicao with Garlic Noodles, (6) Bulalo, (7) Pork Binagoongan, and (8) Turon con Latik. WHEW! Talk about pigging out huh.

Okay, before I say anything, I’d like to tell you that honestly, I am not a fan of Filipino Cuisine. SORRY ๐Ÿ˜ฆ Yes I do enjoy eating them, I am proud of them, but I don’t “love” them or crave for them. Gladly, I find everything we ate, dee-lish! ๐Ÿ™‚ The Fern Salad was oh so yummy and refreshing. I even had to make an extra order. ๐Ÿ™‚ I loved the exotic Eggplant Salad as well and the Turon Con Latik was a perfect sweet ending.

Unfortunately, I don’t think the far drive to Laguna is worth it for the regular eater. When regular, I mean, not super food lovers (foodies) like myself. I’m not sure if it was the climate (it was raining when we went), but it’s just far. Yes I enjoyed the meal and looking around but I won’t recommend you to drive all the way here except if you have other business in Laguna. Perhaps if you ought to buy some embroidery in Lucban Quezon (for example), then you should give it a try. ๐Ÿ™‚ Schdule a foodtrip down South like Viaje Del Sol so your trip will be worth it. ๐Ÿ™‚

You can visit http://www.patistitogardencafe.com/ for more details on how to get there etc. Happy eating!!! ๐Ÿ™‚

Foodie for life,

9 Aug

Hi Friends! How have you been? I hope everybody’s safe and dry after the past three days of tumultuous rain. I’ll be catching up on blog-backlogs so please bear with me for a moment.

I just wanna share how I’ve welcomed August so far. YES, that’s right AUGUST! More than halfway through the year… five months to go before the big day!!! Agggh (insert panic face)

So, first and foremost, please give me a warm round of applause because I FINALLY, after 10 50 years, FINALLY I get to do some physical activity again. I’ve enrolled at Gold’s Gym!!! OHYEAH! ๐Ÿ™‚ So proud of myself for finally starting trying to get fit again. You know, I really really hate exercise. And with my 300-LB-er appetite, I just cant thank God enough that I’m not overweight or close to obese. BUT this doesn’t mean I’m fit and healthy. I know I’m not. I seriously pant when I climb the stairs haha! I still need to exercise to stay in shape. So WOOHOO please pat me on the back for this big step. I was able to drag my lazy butt and embrace exercise as part of my weekly routine. YAY! ๐Ÿ™‚

Next up, since I’ve mentioned there are five months left before the big day (ayayay)… I’ve arranged lunch last weekend for my female bridal entourage!!! ๐Ÿ™‚ Maid of Honor, Bridesmaids, Secondary Sponsors – my lovely girl friends had lunch at my home after my seamstress’ assistant tok their measurements. I’m so excited for their dresses as I’ve designed them myself and carefully assigned the right design for each one. Wee! ๐Ÿ™‚

Lastly, I just want you to meet a cute new member of our household – mommy’s new doggiebaby – BURRITO!!! ๐Ÿ™‚ He’s a playful brown chihuahua with a little voice and huggge appetite for his size. Maybe he got that from me. Hahaha! ๐Ÿ™‚

Enjoy the rest of the month, friends! CHEERS! ๐Ÿ™‚

Hoping for an Awesome August,

Diet Time

19 Jul

For the Nth time… I will TRY to go on diet.

Diet means to lessen my food intake and try to eat healthy. No more fast food for a while. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

I tell you, this is really torture for me. You know how much I love food. But I need this. I need to lose weight before my wedding.

Wish me luck!!! ๐Ÿ™‚

Here’s my healthy lunch for the day. Coffee Bean Tea Leaf Chinese Chicken Salad. Yummy but not filling enough for lunch!

My tummy is currently grumbling after an hour.

Oh dear, diet, I hate you.

Dreading Diet,

Ukokkei A-OK!

17 Jul

FOREVER CRAVING – this is how I feel towards Ukokkei Ramen. I’m ALWAYS craving for it! I can always eat it even if I’m alreay full (agh such a glutton)!

Like fries, French macarons, CPK salad, and Japanese cuisine, Ukokkei Ramen (well it is considered Japanese too) has joined the top notchers of my super favorite food list! ๐Ÿ™‚

Ukokkei’s Tan Tan Men is just true love in a bowl. โ™ฅ I am such a fan of the rich and spicy miso-based soup with roasted sesame oil! Very very tasty mmm. The perfectly cooked al dente noodles made it even more delectable. Talking about it now makes my tummy grumble. Perfect for rainy days! โ˜‚ Actually, it can be my comfort food any time of day and any kind of day haha! ๐Ÿ™‚

Tan Tan Men is just my ultimate fave but other dishes like the Seafood Ramen, Gyoza, and Spicy Prawns are dee-liciouss as well! ๐Ÿ™‚

Visit Ukkokei Ramen Ron along Pasay Road in Makati and change your ramen life forever hahahaha! ๐Ÿ™‚

Laters babes!

Oh live Olive

16 Jul

I was never really a fan of lotions or body creams, especially not body oils. I never really put on anything on my skin (except my face where I’ve already started to use a mild moisturizer). Yep, not even a single drop of whatever. I hate the greasy sticky feeling and even if the product is in gel form or promises to be non-greasy, I still don’tย trust it. Unfortunately, it’s not only my mother’s constant reminder that encouraged me to change this bad habit. Many of my friends and a lot of articles I’ve read have made me change my mind about putting on skin moisturizers. I also noticed that my skin is starting to look dehydrated so okay I’m giving in. Plus, I’m also quite ashamed of my dry and roughย man hands. Haha! ๐Ÿ™‚

I amย still at a constant search for the perfect lotion for me. Currently eyeing on greasless products of course. Something light AND it’s important that it has very mild scent or no scent at all!ย  Here’s one product I picked up from Sasa Hong Kong a few weeks ago – Olive + Q10 Hand Cream. I already started using it this week and viola I’m already falling in love with it! First of all, the packaging already looks refreshing. It comes in a lightweight tube so it’s sanitary and convenient. Secondly, I reallllyyy love the scent! This is rare because I also hate perfume and anything scented for that matter. It’s a pleasant surprise that I love how it smells yay! How do I explain the scent…hmm it’s very very light, almost negligible, but also very clean-smelling (whatever that means haha). And forย the most important part, I love how it moisturizes!ย It has a very light gel-cream texture, it doesn’t feel greasy, but it leaves my hands soooo soft. I still feel the silky feeling until the next day. ๐Ÿ™‚

Too bad that the Olive + Q10 is only a hand cream. If it had a body lotion variant I’m definitely getting one! At least I might be able to resolve my man-hands problem! Haha! ๐Ÿ™‚

So, who’s going to HK anytime soon? Can you please buy for me???

Friday The 13th

14 Jul

Friday the 13th AM: I dropped my laptop on my foot and I drove to work with an injured big toe. COME ONNNN. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

Friday the 13th PM: Were you on the road Friday night??? You’re lukcy if you weren’t because traffic was TERRIBLE everywhere!!! Payday + Friday + Rain = bad combination.ย

Okay enough of the rants.ย  Thank God the day ended nicely…

Good food was there to the rescue!ย  Good food will always calm me down. Haha! ๐Ÿ™‚ Had dinner (late dinner that is) with my college friends Jackie, Audrey, Tam, and Jeff at STELLA.

Stella is a relatively new restaurant in Bonifacio Highstreet Central beside Cue. They have good food.ย  Although a bit pricey, the taste and qualityย made itย worth the price, not to mention the big servings.ย  Their Ribs/Riblets were very tasty and good for three not one! I also liked my Gindara which was real soft and juicy. Too bad I wasn’t able to take photos of the food. We were seated outside where it was quite dark (boo!) and I only had my iPad with me. Sorry!

By the way, the resto is usually called Stella and the Rocketroom because the bar beside it (I think they have the same owners) is called Rocketroom. They have good music and drinks and I’m guessing it will be the next “it place” for yuppies. Will hang there next time. ๐Ÿ™‚

After dinner, itย started to getย a bit noisy as we were seated outside, so we decided to have some dessert at SLICE. It was myย third time at Slice and I still enjoyed the Choco-yema cupcake! Mmmm. Others say it’s too sweet, but you know me, I like sweet! ๐Ÿ™‚ I also had chamomile tea which was a bad idea ‘cos I got really sleepy while driving. Uh oh!

It was a nice catch up sesh with my friends and a good way to cap off the night! Hoping we get to do this more often. ๐Ÿ™‚

Lucky even on Friday the 13th,

โ™ฅ Abby Wasabi

12 Jul

I’m sure everyone has tried Baileys Irish Creme at least once in their lives. Am I right? ๐Ÿ™‚ Baileys is like the good old default ladies drink of teenagers which tastes like yummy chocolate/coffee. Yeah, it has alcohol content but it sure does not taste like it!

So Im sure you’ve already tried the drink BUT have you tried…… the Baileys Truffles? ๐Ÿ™‚ Yup! TRUFFLES!

Look mom, real chocolates this time! ๐Ÿ™‚

Like any other chocolate, it falls right on my dessert-friendly taste buds! Yummy! Rich and smooth with just the right amount of sweetness. ๐Ÿ™‚

Try it! I’m not sure if it’s available in local grocery stores or department stores but you can find it in Duty Free or S&R.
